santa with ho ho ho and monogram

My Sweet Matilda Jane simply could not resist in making something really cute, just for ME to wear to my latest Lecture and Trunk Show with the Prickly Fingers Quilters Guild in Anderson, SC. Since this particular venue was scheduled just before the Holidays...this adorable Swirly Santa Applique with embroidered Ho Ho Ho fit the bill!  I just couldn't resist in adding a super cute appliqued monogram on the lower right hip, just because it gives it that extra something...that I just LOVE!  Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?

Good Grief...I had so much fun...getting to talk about one of my most FAVORITE things...Domestic Machine Applique!  This lecture and trunk show was full of beautiful samples of Machine Applique from levels 101 to 103...and it also included my "Modern Day Piecing" with Dear Jane!

The following day was an all day Workshop on Machine Applique...where the possibilities are endless!  These students did F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S...everyone exceeded my expectations!  So eager to learn, they quickly "took charge" of their own Machine Applique destiny PER their particular machine!  This intense workshop is one of my all time favorites to teach...and I am so proud of each and every one of my students!

matilda jane

Look what followed me home...she literally "jumped" into the back end of my White Yukon!  I never in a million years thought I would go down this path of EMBROIDERY...but here I am...

in the middle of it...and LOVIN' every single minute!

My, "new to ME" 6 needle Embroidery Machine is a Brother PR655...

HOWEVER...she told me in confidence that she "dreams" of being a Janome!  What's a girl to do...

I named her "Matilda Jane" and together we create beautiful Nurses Bags, Pet Bags, Veternarian Bags, School Totes and fabulous embroidered gifts!  Shortly there after...Mattie and ME! was added to my Etsy Shop.  Gosh...I LOVE her so!

Be sure to check back and explore the many adventures with my sweet Matilda Jane!

Good Golly Miss Molly...where has the time gone?  More than a month has come and gone and no blog post updates from ME!  Get your act together Kathleen...take a breather from the multiple projects going on in the Studio and clean your filthy house and blog about something you have actually accomplished.

PS...it's not necessary to mention the tornado that blew through the Studio!

Here's my progress with Dear Jane...Modern Piecing.  Block B-12 is called Starflower and was simply Machine Appliqued using a fusible raw edge method.  It makes my heart sing!  There are a total of 5 pieces in this little 6 inch finished block.

Woohoo...my second Full Color Tutorial is up on The Quilted Story Website.  Be sure to check it out...just go to left of the screen and click on "TUTORIALS" and you will find The Quilt as You Go Project ...for Ms. Jean.

My little Mini Quilt Group...you know, my friends who all LOVE Chocolate Cake ladies...have been challenged by one of our members, Ms. Fannie (the infamous long arm quilter) to make this Quilt as You Go Project in honor of one of our Quilty Friends...Ms. Jean B., who passed away recently.  Ms. Jean was a wonderful and prolific quilter...who always, and I mean ALWAYS had a smile and a kind word to say about every single thing I ever did.  She was always as sweet as can be to me...even when some people chose NOT to be so nice.  Ms. Jean was a classy gal!

This particular project was one of her favorite carry along projects and it is just fitting that we honor her this way!  So what's a chatty group member...aka, ME...do to help us all out?  Write and photograph a Full Color Tutorial to share with everyone, of course!  Won't you join us and make this fun little project for yourself or a dear friend who needs a little "lift" to their day?  Ms. Jean would have!

I chose the fabric line called Sentimental Journey by Robin Pandolf for SSI Fabrics to make my Large Lap size quilt...all for Ms. Jean!

We all miss you Ms. Jean and your wonderful smile!

I am moving right along with my Dear Jane Saga...with block B-11 called Melissa's Cross, she has a total of 21 pieces...in my updated version.

To make it a little more interesting...she is Modern Pieced.  I love when a plan comes together!

I combined two of my best skills and was able to achieve a block that most resembles Jane Sickles from the 1800's.  Well...except that my Dear Jane is a Rebel in RED!

I digress...

First I went to my Dear Jane Software...where I was able to print out the portion of my block that was going to be paper pieced.  I also printed out the oval shapes that were in the template printout...it has the 1/4" seam allowance on the straight edge side of the oval...ready for use.  Instead of piecing this section, I simply cut oval shapes (that I traced from the templates...making sure to add that seam allowance on the straight edge side.  I then machine appliqued that section onto the white square background and then it was easy to sew it to the paper pieced section.

I LOVE the way it turned out...so much easier than hand piecing it...

Well...at least for ME!
