Who is Kathleen?

HELLO EVERYONE!  Welcome to The Quilted Story Website!  My name is Kathleen Bowen and I've been a Professional Quilt Instructor for over 15 years.  I began my love of sewing as a young girl growing up in a large family of 8 children in a small town east of Cleveland, Ohio.

I began quilting over 30 years ago and soon decided that making a king size quilt...completely template cut of course, was what I should do.  My mom always taught us that "can't never did anything", so I figured why not?  Well, let's just say this experience taught me that I wanted and needed to learn EVERYTHING there was to know about quilting.

I have developed and perfected techniques over the years that allow me to bring a unique approach to a classroom setting.  I've learned how to operate every sewing machine on the market so I could become a more precise and knowledgeable instructor for my students. My years of teaching experience has taught me that every student learns at a different rate.  I welcome the challenge to help each student move forward in class so their learning experience with me is a positive one.  When you sign up for a class with me, you will quickly learn that my classes are set up to be lots of fun while having a high quality of learning in the process.  I love what I do!

My main focus in any classroom and/or workshop setting is to concentrate on individual attention and hands on learning.  You will often hear me say that there are no silly questions and no mistakes that can't be fixed.

I have taught a variety of age groups that span from 7 to 85 years old and my students vary from absolute beginners to advanced quilters.  In the last 7 years I have started to write some of my own patterns and I really enjoy dreaming up new classes.

In my Lectures and Trunk shows, I emphasize on smaller than full size bed quilts, concentrating on lap size quilts, wall hangings, pillows, table runners, pocketbooks, totes and anything machine appliqued.   While most quilters today enjoy making a full sized bed quilt here and there, it's the smaller projects that I try to bring into perspective so that our love of quilting does not involve all lengthy projects.   This is just an easy way for us to make "do able projects that simply get done".

Years ago I was asked what my life would mean to someone in the future and I didn't have to give it more than a moments thought before I answered them.   I am not a doctor, a lawyer or any of the like, but I am a quilt maker and over the years of making quilts I have always put the documentation of everything I do as top priority.  This way, every quilt or quilted project I make, no matter what size it is, will remain forever tied to me in THE QUILTED STORY!
