Lookey there!  A new project "containerized"  and the blocks have been started!  I am making 63 blocks for this Orange Beauty and as you can see I have my favorite little basket right there to catch all the leftover pieces of fabric and thread.  I have decided to name this quilt ORANGE SLICES, simply because it reminds me of those yummy orange slice candies I remember eating as a kid.  I am pretty sure those candies were one of my mothers favorites since she always made sure we had them in the station wagon for those long road trips to Texas every summer.  My mother is a Texan and proud of it, her sister Elouise and my mother both have that southern Texan drawl to their speech.  It is absolutely adorable to hear my Aunt Elouise say the word "Darlin"!

The Orange Slice candies have some funny memories for me and my 7 siblings.  Like I had mentioned before, Mother would make sure a couple bags of these Orange Slice candies were in the station wagon, along with several other essentials for our trip SOUTH.  Now, remember there are 8 children packed into a full sized station wagon...6 girls, 2 boys (the boys were bookends...Tony, the eldest and Joe, the baby).  One can only imagine how little room there was for the "necessities" that one would want to have on such a trip like this.  With this in mind, mother would pack only 2 bags of Orange Slice Candies,  1 pillow (that worked really well with 8 bratty kids in the car), the road map and of course, the ever important whippin' stick.  Mother rarely needed to actually use the whippin' stick, however the threat was there, lurking under the front seat, and well within my mothers grasp.   Mother ran the household like an Army Barracks, and the road trips in the car were NO exception.

My brother Tony, is the eldest in the family...so Mother always put him in "charge" of the 2 bags of Orange Slice Candies, the 1 pillow and the road map.  However, MOTHER was always in charge of the whippin' stick!  Looking back at those fond memories of sweaty station wagon car rides to Texas in the heat of the summer months, I smile and think to myself...an Orange Slice Candy would be really great right about now!

I have pulled the fabrics for a new project...I told you all that I would have to fill one of those empty containers before too long!  I haven't made an all ORANGE quilt so that is the color palette I am using this time around.  I was surprised to see that I had three, four or twelve different orange fabrics!  It's clear, I have a few fabrics, but look at it this way, I AM pulling from my stash and trying to use from there first before I make a purchase.  This time, I had plenty in my own stash!  It's a shocker, I know.

The quilt I have planned for these fabrics could be made in any color theme...I really just wanted to step outside of my comfort zone a bit and try something new!  It's a lot of fun!  This project is going to take shape quick, so check back soon to see how it progresses.

An EMPTY container...how can that be?  I have not only finished one but two projects that were in these containers.  Do you think I have an unnatural fondness for the "CONTAINERS" in my life?  You may be right...oh heck, let's face it, you are RIGHT!   Embrace your weaknesses, remember?  Do you find yourself wanting to be me when you grow up?  You know, like my sisters do?  OK, maybe not!

It may very well be a crime to let these containers sit empty...what would the container police say if they saw such an unbelievable sight?  My compulsive behavior would never let this happen, so I will fill them with two new projects, ASAP!

I'll call my sisters and ask if they have a cure for my strange fondness for the container...I am sure they will have plenty of advice for me.  Although, now that I think of it, their advice may not be printable!

Let's move on to safer territory!

The purple quilt is finally finished!  I named this beauty CRAZY COINS, simply because it is off set and wonky.  Sometimes life just seems a little off and when I look at this quilt I feel "better" about my crazy day!  All those beautiful purple fabrics just make me smile and want to laugh out loud!  I love the way a quilt will make me feel a certain way and change my mood with a simple glance of it.  Try stepping outside your box and make a quilt or quilted project with something wild, crazy or just plain different from anything you might have made before.  Call it your "FUN" project and see if you don't smile just a little more!  I love what I do!

The purple blocks in this quilt project are not your normal "square" type of quilt blocks...one more way I am stepping outside the box! My sisters are saying, "Kathleen has her "own" kind of scary box"!  Oh, my favorite sisters have such a fond way of showing how much they want to be "ME" when they grow up.  It's ok girls...say it out loud!

I needed 42 blocks to make the quilt I am planning, and each block only took 15 minutes each...it flew by.  I couldn't believe all these little units were stacking up so fast!  That container I organized to hold this project is going to be emptied out quick...stop by soon to see the outcome of this fun quilt!
